“I’m only human,
nobody’s perfect, we’re all selfish and all make mistakes just like everybody
else”…Rev. Renee
Without Prejudice
For the purpose of justification and to prove that we are
both on the same side and also on the same page, you might as well take a look
around you, and then also within, and I dare you to make a summary of what the
world is actually about. Don’t get me wrong, even I’m not claiming to have
figured it all out, nor am I on a mission to do so, but the fact remains that
chances are you’ll most probably discover that we are all on an infinite race, only
the irony being that we are simply running against ourselves.
Running races is definitely a good thing, even the doctor
recommends it, but running competition races is beyond doubt even much better
as it is known to bring greatness out of men, it unleashes amazing treasures
that man never knew he had embedded in him in the first place, what a marvelous
surprise, but doesn’t it come with its own unique price?
“Tell me why are we
so blind to see that the ones we hurt are you and me?”…Coolio
The Downside
It is really a unique world we live in. Despite the
countless countries, hills, mountains and rivers, we still call it a small
world, unconsciously acknowledging in our heart of hearts that life is crammed
up with loads of complicated issues and instances, which of course makes us
consider the analysis of our line of thought along systems approach.
“A spirit of
innovation is generally the result of a selfish temper and confined views.
People will not look forward to posterity, who never look backward to their
ancestors”…Edmund Burke
Anyway, many people embark on a dark and lonely quest for
greatness spending their sweat and blood along the tortuous journey, and when
they emerge victorious from the long and dark tunnel they are usually met with
a mixture of compliment and envy.
Unfortunately, just a fraction of the folks that give us
compliment truly are happy with us, and what right do the rest have to be
jealous when then might as well have paid their own dues as well? So I thought until
I stumbled upon a school of thought that encourages us to appreciate them
because perhaps their involvement in our circumstances might actually be a
stimulus to higher grounds.
“To be successful you have to be selfish, or
else you never achieve. And once you get to your highest level, then you have
to be unselfish. Stay reachable. Stay in touch. Don’t isolate”…Michael Jordan
The Upside
Okay we admit some great and generous folks have
justified selfishness to be a good thing in certain ways and times. It reminds
me of a military regime with an idealistic and futuristic General with massive
will power backed up with heavy duty junta that help garner invincible momentum
just like a pride of lions on a hunting expedition. It is just that they don’t
make being selfish seem all that a bad thing because there is no ulterior
motive, the idea is to use all the resources available to achieve a goal within
a time limit adopting the required discipline just like project management.
“Wisdom ceases to
be wisdom when it becomes too proud to weep, too grave to laugh, and too
selfish to seek other than itself”…Khalil Gibran
Wisdom
A school of thought tells us that life operates on principles, it further emphasizes that to progress in life we have to do what works and not necessarily what we think is right. Following through stereotyped tactics of doing things might have the implication of being dogmatic, erratic and devoid of innovation, we also have to consider the rate of development of our generation in proportion with the unprecedented development of science and technology.
Have you had a geek friend in high school who wouldn't teach you that homework, or that lousy fat kid who wouldn't share his lunch? Well, what are they up to now? See? All that school stuff hardly ever matter anymore.
“It’s enough to
indulge and to be selfish but true happiness is really when you start giving
back”…Adrian Grenier
Heart
I doubt if I'll ever tire talking about it, but emotional intelligence sums it all up, technically along the lines of systems though.
I have no right to force or destructively criticize the countries that refuse to accommodate refugees that are ravaged by war in their countries, perhaps due to their hard earned economy, especially with the case of the Syrian people, but what if the tables were turned? There you go. Although many nations have somewhat claimed to have regretted accommodating other nationals that needed sancuary due to their eventual dominance and terrorism tendencies, but I believe if we had the bigger picture in view perhaps we can come up with a win-win situation.
